FEATURED BOOTLEG

Bootleg

This week: Asheville, NC 10-8-1999

Well, folks, we're back at it again with another gem from Larry's Basement Tapes! Asheville, NC 10-8-1999 From the moment Ani, Daren, Jason, and Julie take the stage you can tell there is something special about this evening. Opening with Freakshow is always a good start, and from there the band goes into Virtue and takes it for a walk as Ani is feeling chatty. While the whole show is amazing a couple of tracks from To The Teeth that seem to stand out, Both Swing and Carry You Around make really fun upbeat appearances. And we have to mention the beautiful cover of Greg Brown's Oh Lord I Have Made You A Place In My Heart. This show is as good as it sounds, and sounds as good as it looks!

New bootlegs featured every week, airing Wednesday, Friday and Saturday nights at 9pm CST and Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday mornings at 4am CST.

FEATURED CONVERSATION

Interviews

This week: Petticoat Rule: The Abby Gross Episode

Petticoat Rule is a radio program dedicated to unraveling the mystery of creative productivity by examining the lives of women involved in the music industry.

Each episode aims to develop an intimacy with the artist so as to illuminate her unique relationship with her creative spirit. We hope to inspire listeners to put in the work and unleash their unique inventive talents!

Saxophonist extraordinaire Abby Gross joins Petticoat Rule to share with us the 'glamour' of road life with soul-rock band The Commonheart as well as her passion for music education, and gives insight into what it's like to write a song about something meaningful without using any lyrics. We also touch on the challenges of work-life balance as a professional musician on tour, and her long-term origins as a jazz player, embedded all the way back in the influences of her great-grandmother.

First aired Jan 29th 2018. https://petticoatrule.fireside.fm/

The conversation will air Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 12pm and 5pm CST.

LETTERS FROM AN AMERICAN

Letters from an American

Historians are fond of saying that the past doesn’t repeat itself; it rhymes. To understand the present, we have to understand how we got here. That’s where this newsletter comes in. Heather Cox Richardson is a professor of American history. She believes that you can’t get a grip on today’s politics without an outline of America’s Constitution, and laws, and the economy, and social customs, her newsletter explores what it means, and what it has meant, to be an American. These were the same questions a famous observer asked in a book of letters he published in 1782, the year before the Treaty of Paris ended the Revolutionary War. Hector St. John de Crevecoeur called his book “Letters from an American Farmer.” History doesn’t repeat itself, but it sure rhymes. We will broadcast a recording of Heather Cox Richardson reading the daily letters at 6pm, 11pm and 8am the following day CST.

You can find the Letters and more about our Resident Professor here: https://heathercoxrichardson.substack.com

ACOUSTIC CAFE

Acoustic Cafe
Acoustic Café is a two hour weekly radio show, and an independent media production of RDR Radio, LLC. The program is produced and hosted by Rob Reinhart, who started the show in 1995.

Each week, listeners around the globe tune in to Acoustic Café to hear the latest from today’s great songwriting talents. It’s hard to put a definitive label on Acoustic Café’s music selections. After all, a good song is a good song… any individual set of music could contain a bit of country, rock, blues, folk, pop… and more!

In addition to classic songwriters (oh, you know who they are…), Acoustic Café wants to bring as many newer talents to the table as possible. That’s the best description we can conjure… now, hear this week’s program by clicking here! Also, you can hear a few year’s worth of our interviews and performances by visiting our archives here. Enjoy.
Airing Fridays at 10am CST
